As a content creator (filmmaker / photographer), the majority of my work is commercial and educational. Under the commercial banner I've had the opportunity to shoot just about everything, from lifestyle to dance to landscape to travel to wildlife to race car drivers and more! My favorite thing to shoot? Something new. I love a challenge.
My studio is in Ashland, Oregon — half way between San Francisco and Portland, Oregon.
Clients include Panasonic, Logitech/Mevo, DxO, Apple, Mercedes-Benz, the artist Seal, and many other businesses of all sizes.

PhotoJoseph.com is a resource for photography apps tips, tutorials, training and presets, supporting Lightroom, Capture One, Aperture, Apple Photos and any number of iOS and Android photography tools. Anyone who enjoys photography, from working pro to avid enthusiast, will find something for themselves on this site!
The site was originally launched in 2010 as ApertureExpert.com, and with the demise of Aperture has evolved to support the growing excitement around digital photography.
LUMIX Ambassador
In 2014, I had the honor of being invited to join the Ambassador program (formerly "Luminary") of photographers for the Panasonic LUMIX brand. We represent the LUMIX cameras, presenting at trade shows and road shows around the country, on social media, and there venues. Naturally, LUMIX cameras are my primary gear for shooting these days. Beauty After Breast Cancer
I am the photographer on a multi-year book project titled "Beauty After Breast Cancer". This coffee table style book can be found in breast cancer centers around the world as a guiding light for those women about to undergo the terrifying process of breast cancer treatment. It is being created to show — through beautiful and compassionate stories and photos — that there is, in fact, beauty after breast cancer.
The book was released at the end of 2015, and is available now at BeautyAfterBreastCancer.com.
Online Training
I am the author of a popular and growing online photography training library at lynda.com, with titles such as "Photography 101" (an introduction to photography course, recently re-shot and re-released in summer of 2016), "Photography 101: Shooting Macros and Close-Ups", and "Shooting in Low Light", the ongoing "The DIY Photographer" series, and more. Education
Several years ago I was invited to present at an Apple Distinguished Educators (A.D.E.) conference in Singapore, then at others around the globe. Those conferences led to opportunities throughout the world to work directly with schools, where I've spent anywhere from a single day to multiple weeks with their students and faculty, integrating photography and digital storytelling into their curriculum. I've had the pleasure of working with private schools in Shanghai, Beijing, Bangkok, Hong Kong, California, British Columbia and South Korea. Personal
I've been a nomad since birth. I was born in Santa Barbara, California in 1973. When I was one, my family moved to Anaheim, CA where I remember being able to see the Disneyland fireworks from my bedroom window every night. At the age of five, in 1978, we moved to Madrid, Spain for my father's work. We remained in Madrid for seven years, living in three different homes where I attended three different schools, including the IB (International Baccalaureate) school ASM (American School of Madrid).
At the age of 12 we returned to California, where my first year of American schooling was the eighth grade. I attended Miraleste High School in Rancho Palos Verdes, CA, then on to University at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo in 1991 to formally study photography. I graduated Cal Poly in 1996 and immediately moved to Santa Barbara to work at MetaCreations (formerly MetaTools), a software company that played a key role in the digital imaging revolution in the late '90s.
In 1997 the job took me to Amsterdam, where I lived for two years, then to London for another year. While living in London the company imploded and I was left without a job or a residence visa! I launched CarbonBlack with a friend, and we acted as freelance evangelists for tech companies without their own representation throughout Europe, wrote for a variety of tech magazines, as well as presented for larger companies such as Apple and Wacom.
In 2000 due to visa restrictions I had to return to the United States, where I ultimately found a job at Apple in Cupertino, CA in early 2001. I remained at Apple for eight years, until 2009, where I was part of the incredible growth of the applications division, and the launch of Aperture; software for advanced and professional photographers.
In 2009 I left Apple to pursue my own photography career and moved to Los Angeles, CA. That summer I toured with Seal on the SOUL Tour and shot an ad campaign for Apple in Europe, kicking off the photography business quite nicely.
In 2010, I launched ApertureExpert.com. The site quickly became the world's #1 resource for Aperture users, but in 2014 Apple cancelled Aperture, with a promise to replace it with Photos.app in 2015. I migrated the site to PhotoJoseph.com, where we support all types of photography apps, and guide the amateur to pro photographer through the ever-growing software choices available today.
In the meantime I moved to Ashland, Oregon, and in 2013 opened my photography studio, where I'm working from today.
I currently live in Ashland, am married to Alenka Linaschke, a graphic designer, and have three children; the youngest boy Yuri, my son Takoda, and daughter Sabrina.
